Rainy Day Macros — Post-Storm

We've had a couple of rainy days here in St. Louis where I have had time off and my macro lens handy.

The first day, I crept out mid-rain with an umbrella into my backyard. It wasn't raining hard, but it would've been smarter to probably stay in. But it was worth it for photos like these:

Today, we had a pretty hefty storm mid-morning that broke up about mid-afternoon. Again, I went to the backyard and took several photos and then convinced the roommate to come with me to the Missouri Botanical Garden where I stalked the hosts and other water-loving plants.

I really am loving this lens. One of the best photography investments that I ever made... don't you think?

Check out the rest on flickr! Macro Water Droplets is the set.

21/52 - Photo Project 2013

For the first time in awhile, I have 5 pretty decent candidates that are in a 'tie'.  I had a photographic week - more sneaking in some macro photo time, a trip to the zoo to visit zoo babies and an evening photo shoot on the Eads Bridge downtown in East St Louis.

It's a tie:

Which one shall be the winner?

Sorry, skyline... baby animals win every time!

You can't resist that face... I can't!

Zoo Babies!

My roommate and I went and visited the St. Louis Zoo, expressly to see Priya, our newest elephant on her public debut. She was born on April 26th - so she's not even one month old. She is so tiny and precious - especially in comparison to her mother... don't you agree?

And while we were there, we saw THREE other zoo babies!

A joey out of his/her pouch:

A baby zebra:

and a baby Bactrian camel:

whose family posed for a family portrait:

There's really nothing better than getting surprised by super-cute zoo animals. This is why I love the Zoo!

20/52 - Photo Project 2013

Week 20 was perhaps the craziest week of work in a long time. Lots of major events, and ones that required days longer than most. Still, I managed to sneak a few moments here and there. May 18th was actually a double photo event day - Chinese Cultural Days at the Missouri Botanical Garden, something I had never attended before and the Photo Flood for Lafayette Square - another place I'd never been but definitely want to re-visit when my feet aren't killing me.

Lots of choices, but this was the winner of the week:

A crisp clear raindrop - perfection.

It's raining today, so I might get more of a chance to perfect my technique!

19/52 - Photo Project 2013

The fun thing about photography is that sometimes you never know where your opportunities are. I had not had a chance to take photos (no recent Floods or other photo explorations) yet, so I took my camera out to our courtyard at work on my way home. Luckily, pretty things were in bloom!

Winner of the week:

Macro Courtyard

Runner's up:

Macro Courtyard

Macro Plants Front Garden

Here's to more opportunities in the next week... But looking back over the last 19 weeks, I'm really happy with the quality of the photos this project so far. But I can always get better! And that there, is the whole point of the project.

18/52 - Photo Project 2013

It's a little late, but I definitely had the pictures taken. I just haven't had time to post them. It was a crazy week at work, and then, I had a jam-packed weekend where I did a lot and slept very little. Well-worth it, though.

Winner of the week:

Macro Dandelions

And runners up:

Macro Bubble Abstracts

More adventures in Macr

I haven't taken any photos yet this week... I better get cracking!
